2022 Scholarship Winners

Deven Avant

Deven is on his way to State University of New York at Buffalo to study pharmacology and perhaps a medical degree. He has an A average, is on the Honor Roll, and is a member of the National Honor Society of High School Scholars. Deven is a leader on the Boys & Girls basketball team and has done extra-curricular activities in and out of school, including founding his own charity Project Do Something, working with Meals on Wheels, being student ambassador at Boys & Girls, and being an active member of the Black Students Union. He plans on playing college basketball. He credits his success to support from his family and his religion, both of which are very important to him.

Jahzai Cook

Jahzai has started his college career this summer at Hampton University in Virginia where he will concentrate in business with an eye towards sports management, sports media, nutrition and fitness, and being an entrepreneur. He has an A average and is on the Honor Roll, has won the Kangaroo Trevor Mickens Academic Award, and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. Jahzai was captain of the Boys & Girls basketball team and plans to play college ball. Family and education are important to him and he has set high goals and standards for himself.
